Scientific articles
Non-melanoma skin cancer
Among many topics in the non-melanoma skin cancer sessions, a special focus will be put on the clinical spectrum and tumour microenvironment of basal cell carcinoma, on the utility of surgery in advanced squamous cell carcinoma and on the immunobiology of Merkel cell carcinoma.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease that affects 2-3% of the world’s population and is characterized by red scaly spots. Psoriasis patients require a lifelong treatment, with all the psychological consequences that can come from such a condition.
Dermoscopy
Dermoscopy has proven to be a highly useful non-invasive diagnostic method. The examination of skin lesions with the use of a dermatoscope increases the accuracy in evaluating skin tumours and distinguishing them from benign moles.
Skin Barrier and Microbiome
Microbiome of the skin has a close connection with skin diseases, as well as the microbiome of the scalp and hair follicle has an influence on hair biology and diseases. Urbanisation has large-scale effects on chemical and microbial exposures and, ultimately, on the human microbiota
Artificial Intelligence and Teledermatology
Teledermatology and smartphone applications can be useful tools to improve treatment adherence, and they show enormous potential in the triage of suspicious skin lesions. Furthermore, AI has the potential to enhance human intelligence, rather than replace it.
Covid-19
What skin manifestations are associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection? How skin lesions are related to personal hygiene measures? What are the effects of biologics and immunosuppressive drugs in COVID-19 patients? And what about dermatological practice in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic?
