The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) is deeply saddened by the passing of Professor José María Mascaró, an esteemed leader in dermatology whose remarkable contributions have left a lasting legacy in the field of dermatovenereology.

Professor Mascaró’s academic and professional journey was marked by exceptional dedication and profound impact. He served as EADV President from 1998 to 2000, following his tenure as President-Elect from 1996 to 1998. After his presidency, he continued to provide invaluable service as Past President from 2000 to 2002. In addition to his leadership roles, Prof. Mascaró actively contributed as a member of the EADV Ethics Committee (2003–2006), a Board Member representing Spain (1998–2004), and a dedicated participant in the Congress Task Force (2000–2003). In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to dermatology and the EADV community, he was honoured with EADV Honorary Membership in 2016.

Prof. Mascaró’s influence extended far beyond the EADV. A visionary leader and mentor, he was renowned for his transformative contributions to dermatology education and his unwavering commitment to advancing the field. His legacy includes the mentorship of countless dermatologists in Spain and Latin America, fostering a culture of excellence, compassion, and innovation.

His enduring dedication to medical science and education, combined with his humanity and exemplary leadership, made him a role model for all who had the privilege of working with him. His impact will continue to resonate through the generations of dermatologists he inspired and the broader global dermatology community.

The EADV extends its heartfelt condolences to Prof. Mascaró’s family, friends, and colleagues. We are profoundly grateful for his extraordinary life and immeasurable contributions to our field. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
