EADV Task Force TATTOOS AND BODY ART
Mission
The goal of the Tattoo and Body Art Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology is to advance dermatological knowledge, safety, and patient care related to tattoos and body art. It promotes evidence-based guidance, supports research, and fosters collaboration among dermatologists, scientists, regulators, body art practitioners and industry to ensure safe practices and informed decision-making for both professionals and the public.
The Tattoo and Body Art Task Force of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology aims to improve dermatological knowledge, clinical practice, and public safety in relation to tattoos and body art by:
- Monitoring emerging trends and risks related to tattoos, permanent makeup, and other body art practices, including identification of complications, the changes in regulation of pigments, and the development of new techniques and devices.
- Promoting research on dermatological reactions, long-term effects of tattoo pigments, and safe removal procedures, including coordination of multicentre and collaborative research initiatives.
- Supporting evidence-based clinical guidance to help dermatologists diagnose, manage, and prevent tattoo-related skin conditions and health issues, including the development of consensus statements where appropriate.
- Collaborating with regulators, scientists, and public health stakeholders to contribute dermatological expertise to policy and safety discussions. The composition of tattoo inks is a major concern.
- Providing education and awareness for dermatologists, healthcare professionals, body art practitioners and the public regarding safe body art practices.
- Encouraging multidisciplinary dialogue between dermatologists, toxicologists, epidemiologists, and other relevant experts.
- Contributing to EADV educational activities, including sessions at congresses, publications, and professional training related to tattoos and body art.
- Facilitating dissemination of scientific knowledge through publications, educational materials and expert-driven resources.
