EADV Task Force Geriatric dermatology

Mission

Aging skin represents a biologically distinct physiological state shaped by immunosenescence and inflammaging, which necessitates a specialized clinical approach beyond conventional frameworks. The EADV Geriatric Dermatology Task Force bridges this evidence gap by advancing clinical management and research. We promote excellence in research, education, and clinical practice, fostering a pan-European platform to address the unique challenges of geriatric skin and improve diagnostic competence and therapeutic outcomes for older adults.

The Geriatric Dermatology Task Force proactively addresses the evolving dermatologic needs of the aging population through the following strategic actions:

  • Collaborative research & guidelines: We spearhead pan-European research initiatives and multicenter studies to address significant evidence gaps. Our core activities include submitting EADV-sanctioned evidence-based position papers and consensus guidelines, conducting literature reviews, and harmonizing therapeutic protocols to manage complex dermatoses in older populations.
  • Educational excellence: We advance professional competence by curating comprehensive e-learning modules, webinar series, digital podcasts, and scholarly book projects. Furthermore, we actively facilitate face-to-face training courses and organize dedicated scientific sessions on geriatric dermatology at EADV Congresses.
  • Advocacy, public health & visibility: We elevate the TF’s impact by creating accessible patient education leaflets to promote health literacy. We disseminate our findings and research objectives through EADV official channels (e.g., EADV News, EADV Clinical Practice) and represent the TF’s clinical authority at major international congresses, such as major international scientific congresses.
  • Mentorship: Providing advanced educational resources and training modules to support early-career dermatologists and specialized trainees in addressing the unique clinical challenges of geriatric dermatology.
