European Day for Skin Cancer Prevention
Skin cancer is one of the most preventable cancers, yet its burden continues to grow across Europe. This year EADV wants to highlight an angle that too often goes unnoticed: occupational skin cancer.
Over 70 million outdoor workers across Europe face daily UV exposure as part of their job. Non-melanoma skin cancer caused by occupational UV exposure is one of the most common occupational cancers in Europe, yet it remains largely unrecognised, underreported and absent from EU occupational health frameworks.
Climate change is making this challenge even more urgent, with rising temperatures and changing exposure patterns increasing risks for workers across Europe.
At EADV, we call for:
- Recognition of occupational skin cancer as a workplace health issue
- Better prevention and protection measures for outdoor workers
- More research and data on the impact of climate change on skin health
- Stronger EU action to integrate skin cancer prevention into occupational health and safety policies
EADV will continue driving this discussion at its 5th Multi-Stakeholder Summit on Occupational Skin Cancer in Vienna alongside its flagship Congress, bringing together key stakeholders to advance prevention, protection and policy action.
