The European Commission is developing a Council Recommendation on cardiovascular health checks, and EADV has submitted a formal response to the call for evidence.
Our core ask is simple: a diagnosis of a chronic inflammatory skin disease should systematically trigger a cardiovascular risk assessment.
- The evidence is clear. Psoriasis patients are up to 50% more likely to develop CVD. Atopic dermatitis is linked to myocardial infarction, stroke and heart failure.
- Early treatment of skin disease has been shown to reduce cardiovascular risk, making access to dermatology care itself a prevention measure.
- Inflammatory skin disease is not a niche issue, and the Council Recommendation must reflect that.
