Background:
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic skin inflammatory disease associated with numerous severe comorbidities, comparable to those seen in psoriasis, and in some aspects, even more pronounced. Although HS is not a rare disease, it has long been considered one—largely due to poor awareness, limited medical attention, and a paucity of specific medical treatments. As a result, both the public and healthcare professionals often fail to recognize HS promptly, leading to an average diagnostic delay of seven years, frequent misdiagnosis, undertreatment and severe disease progression. Recent advancements in treatment options and the establishment of dedicated centers for HS have brought hope to patients. Nevertheless, this disease and its management remain marked by many unmet needs.
Scope:
To further enhance awareness, progress and innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of HS, the JEADV Editorial Team has taken the important step of creating a special issue devoted to this disease, inviting clinically-focused submissions on the topic. The JEADV welcomes proposals for this HS special issue, to be guest edited by Thrasyvoulos Tzellos and Francesca Prignano, with the aim of deepening understanding, broadening perspectives and contributing to ongoing scientific advancements in this dynamic field.
We invite manuscript submissions from both academia and industry, with priority given to those demonstrating strong clinical relevance. By sharing these insights, we hope to inspire further research, increase awareness, promote investigation and address critical unmet needs in the field of HS.
Topics of interest are:
- Efforts to promote awareness
- Future treatments (from case series to phase 2/3 results)
- Personalized medicine/multidisciplinary approach in HS
